About SPEAR Foundation
Education Grounded in Practice. Opportunity Strengthened by Mentorship.
SPEAR Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding access to meaningful clinical education for the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Our Story
SPEAR Foundation — Sponsoring Education Advancement and Retention Foundation, Inc. — was established to address a persistent gap in healthcare education: the disconnect between academic preparation and real-world clinical experience.
Aspiring nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nursing students, and pre-medical students often face significant barriers in securing quality preceptorships. Without structured, ethical mentorship, many talented individuals are unable to complete their programs or enter the workforce prepared to deliver excellent patient care.
SPEAR was founded to change that. By connecting learners with experienced clinicians and partnering with healthcare organizations committed to education, we create pathways that are structured, supervised, and aligned with the highest standards of clinical practice.
Our Mission
To advance access to high-quality clinical education by connecting aspiring healthcare professionals with experienced mentors, supporting workforce development, and strengthening the communities healthcare professionals serve.
Clinical excellence
Every preceptorship is grounded in evidence-based practice, sound clinical judgment, and the realities of patient care.
Ethical mentorship
We hold every learning relationship to the highest standards of accountability, respect, and appropriate supervision.
Access and retention
We work to remove barriers that prevent talented individuals from completing their clinical education and entering the workforce.
Community impact
Stronger clinicians build stronger healthcare teams — and stronger communities. That is the long-term goal of everything we do.
What We Stand For
Integrity in every relationship
We operate transparently with learners, preceptors, partner organizations, and the public. Trust is the foundation of effective mentorship.
Learner-centered design
Programs are shaped around the goals, timelines, and professional needs of the learner — not a one-size-fits-all model.
Preceptor partnership
We respect the expertise and time of our clinical partners. Their commitment to education is what makes SPEAR's mission possible.
Nonprofit accountability
As a 501(c)(3) organization, every resource is directed toward our educational mission. We operate with the stewardship and transparency the public trust requires.
